While your team is in possession of the ball it is essential you have players who can apply pressure to the opposition defenders in 1v1 scenarios, as they can give you a huge advantage. These are the 1v1 attacking soccer drills and games that I use with my players.

2 goal madness

2 soccer players are playing a 1v1 while defending and attacking 2 goals
2 goal madness

This will be a regular 1v1 soccer game, however, instead of defending 1 goal in the middle, the players will have to defend 2 goals in each of their corners.

If a player is able to dribble through either of the opposition’s gates they will get 3 points but if they manage to pass the ball through the gate they only get 1 point.

Goal kicks, corners, and throw-ins will be replaced with a player being able to dribble the ball back onto the pitch

1v1 Attacking Transition

There are 2 teams taking shooting on the same goal. As soon as 1 team has had a shot the other team will dribble in to try and score

This is a great 1v1 attacking transition drill to help your players confidently drive into space while the opposition player is unorgnaised.

As well as being a great 1v1 dribbling drill it is also a great way to teach players to transition when a change in possession occurs.

1v1 Pressure From Behind Drill

This is a unique 1v1 drill the focuses on attacking while the pressure is behind the player instead of infront.

It’s a great drill to help strikers remain calm and composed while going through on goal.

If the attacking teams scores they will get 3 points, however if the defending teams scores in the opposite goal they will get 1 point.

The team with the most amount of points will win.

Bounce players 1v1

there are 2 players in the middle playing a 1v1 game, with 2 neutral players on the outside

This is a great 1v1 attacking soccer drill that will help your players discover different ways that they can combine passes to beat the defender 1v1.

The players on the outside are neutral players leaving the 2 middle players in a 1v1.

If a middle player can make a combination pass around the opposition using the neutral player and score a goal, the goal will be worth 3 points instead of 1

1v1 Chaos

There 2 teams in this 1v1 soccer drill, where 3 individuals 1v1s are taking place.

The purpose of the drill is to help players be more aware of their surroundings while dribbling.

The defending and attacking team will pair up, with the defending team starting with the ball and passing to their opposite attacker.

This will create 3, separate 1v1s.

The attackers must try and shoot at any of the 3 goals, for each goal they score they will get 1 point.

However, if they can all score in different goals they will get 5 points.

If the defenders are able to take the ball they can score in the opposite goal for 1 point.

Get through the gates 1v1 dribbling drill

This is a competitive 1v1 that focuses on improving a players ability to quickly identify and attack space with the ball at their feet.

The defender will start with the ball at their feet and pass to the attacker who has the option of dribbling through either gates.

The attacker will get 3 points if they are able to do this, with the defender getting 1 point if they win the ball and score in the opposite goal

2 Goal trouble

The defender starts with the ball and passes the ball to the attacker. the attacker is trying to score in either of the 2 goals

The purpose of the 1v1 game is to help players identify space to attack when dribbling and is great for your U8 – U10 soccer players

The defender will start with the ball between the 2 goals and pass the ball to the attacker.

The attacker will then have to try and score in either of the 2 goals in front of them.

If they manage to do this they will get 3 points.

However, if the defender is able to steal the ball and score in the single goal then they will get 1 point.

Get to the end Zone | 1v1 dribbling Drill

This is an incredibly competitive and fun 1v1 soccer dribbling drill to try with your players.

Instead of scoring in goals players will have to attempt to dribble past the defender and stop the ball in their end zone for 3 points.

If they are unable to stop the ball in the defenders end zone and dribble past it instead the attacker will only get 1 point.

The can also steal the ball and dribble past the attackers end zone for 1 point.

This 1v1 drill is great at teaching your U8, U9 and U10 teams how to quickly change direction and speed to get away from the defender.

It is perfect of teaching them the basics of how to beat defenders in 1v1 scenarios.

These 1v1 soccer drills will provide your players with a wide range of skills that they can use to get past the opposition defender.

Remember there are a variety of ways a player can succeed in a 1v1, a player doesn’t always have to dribble past their opponent.
